FATHER'S RIGHTS

Legitimation

is the process by which a biological father is recognized by law as the legal father of a child born out of wedlock.

Paternity

is the process of identifying the biological father of a child.

Whether you seek to legitimate a child or establish paternity, the process can be difficult and confusing.

Once a father has legitimated a child he can then pursue custody rights and visitation.

With Legitimation a father can seek..........

  • custody

  • visitation

  • his name added to the birth certificate

  • to have the child's name changed

  • an order for child support

With Paternity a mother can seek..........

  • an order for child support

A petition for legitimation is not one that is automatically granted by the court.  It is important that you have an experienced family law attorney to assist you throughout this process. The attorneys at The Blackwell Law Group, LLC can help you understand your rights as a parent. We have routinely helped fathers not only obtain visitation but also custody.
